FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The 10 lessons are organized around key Titanic themes, such as her design, voyage, sinking, discovery, and artifact conservation. While these themes are consistent across all three guides, the focus varies by grade level. For example, all three levels cover Titanic’s design and build in Lesson 1, but the elementary guide explores why Titanic was built, the middle school guide dives into the construction process, and the high school guide focuses on the people behind the ship's creation. This structure gives you the flexibility to review multiple guides and select the lessons that best meet your students’ needs and abilities, all while ensuring access to Titanic’s story.
Download the guide that best suits your students’ needs, abilities, and interests. Guides are designed for grades 4-6, 7-8, and 9-12, but teachers can mix and match lessons from different guides to create a customized curriculum focused on specific skills or topics. The content across state-specific guides is the same—only the standards change—so choose the guide that is most appropriate for your classroom.
If you teach in Florida or Nevada, download the guide that matches your state, as the lessons are aligned with your state's curriculum and standards. The FL and NV guides contain the same content, with the only difference being the corresponding state standards. Be sure to visit your state’s Field Trip page to connect the curriculum to the Exhibition.
The guides are designed to be easily adapted to any state. With consistent content across each guide, you can simply download either version and use the listed standards, targeted skills, and covered subjects to align them with your state’s requirements. Check out our Exhibition page to see if you can link the curriculum to a permanent or traveling Exhibition near you.
No worries! We've built all the Titanic history and content right into the lessons. The step-by-step instructions make it easy, with talking points, learning summaries, and potential student responses. Whether you're new to the history or a seasoned expert, you’ll feel confident teaching Titanic. Plus, the Main Idea summaries and additional resources help you understand key concepts, ensuring you're prepared to teach.
That’s the beauty of these guides. Teachers can easily pick and choose the lessons they want to teach. Each lesson can stand alone and not dependent on one another, making the guide fully customizable to fit varying time constraints and teaching focuses. For instance, if a teacher wants to cover basic history up to 1912, they might choose lessons 1, 4, and 7. Those interested in exploring artifacts can select lessons 9 and 10, while a teacher aiming for a comprehensive Titanic story might opt for all 10 lessons.
Yes, these teacher guides have lessons in Science, Chemistry, History, Geography, Language Arts, Theater, Music, Visual Arts, Outreach, Math, Engineering, and Technology. As you will discover through these guides, Titanic is interdisciplinary. Titanic has an ongoing legacy since 1907 to today, and she can serve as the hook for a variety of subjects, skills, and lessons across all ages.
These guides were designed and developed by two former classroom teachers with over 20 years of experience in elementary, middle, and high school settings. More than 100 teachers from various grade levels and educational environments—including public, charter, post-secondary, and private schools, as well as administrators and homeschool educators—reviewed multiple iterations and provided invaluable feedback, shaping the guides into what they are today.
The original guides are no longer available on our website. While they provided basic lesson ideas, they didn’t include targeted skill sets or align with current state standards. The new guides offer a more comprehensive, interdisciplinary, and accessible approach to teaching Titanic’s story, making it easier for all teachers to engage their students with meaningful content.
